Rock Profile DVD

I'll Start this review by just saying four words "I love Rock Profile."  I do, my grand love affair with Rock Profile goes back to 2000ish when they used to show it on UKPLAY at lunch time.  The first episode I watched was the Elton "Right I'm leaving" John episode and I was hooked ever since, but disaster came when UKPLAY was shut down, did this mean the end of my favourite show?  Fortuantly with the release of Little Britain the show was reshown making fans cry out for a DVD release of this show.  Finally here it is, Rock Profile on DVD, but is it worth getting?

If you enjoyed the Best of Rock Profile on the series 1 DVD of Little Britain you should need no persuasion to get this DVD.  Included on the DVD is every single episode of Rock Profile, yes all 26, unfortunately because of music rights issues the music videos have been cut out.  The show's sadly not as good without them cut out, loosing the "late night itv program" style Matt and David produced originally, but the show is still funny on it's own.

The DVD manages to cram on pretty much every bit of pre-Little Britain Rock Profile you could possibly want.  Included on both discs are the rock facts that would scroll down on the bottom of the screen during the music videos on the original aired version.  Unfortunately the "Vox Pops" (video clips of other characters which aired during the music videos also in the second series) haven't been included, which is a shame as it includes some great Rock Profile moments including Lou "Thank You Thur" Reed.  Included on the first disc is the Rock the Blind Rock Profile special, this is a parody of Band Aid / Perfect Day with Matt and David playing various stars recording "I can see clearly now..." for the Blind (Download the mp3 of the track here.)  This special is great fun, featuring characters from the two series and more recent stars (well recent when it was produced) such as Craig David.

Disc Two features the rest of the extras featuring various Matt and David Rock Profile appearances, with 4 cribs parodies with Rock Profile characters from the Ralf Little Show. These are of particular interest because of an early Lou Reed and Andy Warhole sketch which evolved to the Lou and Andy we know from Little Britain (A clip of this can be found on the 50 greatest comedy sketch clips on the site here).   Other early appearances include 3 clips from the Sara Cox show "Born Sloppy," some Top of the Pop Launch special clips, a clip from the Jamie Theakston / Zoe Ball "The Priory" show and clips from Comic Relief.  All these clips from shows are worth watching and feature some rock profile characters not in the series.   Also included is a specially recorded interview with Matt and David, in which they talk about how the show started, making the show and what characters they would do if they brought the show back.  An interesting interview which has clips from the series in which seems a bit like padding and a tad unnecessary (particular as you can watch the full episodes if you want).  There are still a few more extras including the License Fee commercial (Watch the un-cut version on the site here, yes it's slightly cut on the dvd!) and some behind the scenes footage from Rock the Blind.

The DVD is an essential purchase for any self proclaimed Matt Lucas and David Walliams fan, it offers a great opportunity to see pre-Little Britain Lucas and Walliams materials, now if only the BBC would release some more early stuff, say Sir Bernard Chumley's Stately Homes?
